In Response to Human Need.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama once wrote that violence was the result of destructive emotions; and that terrorism, in and of itself, was a manifestation of a growing human failure.

That is not to say, there is no place for such emotions. Rather, it reinforces the disastrous consequences which may result when ‘human intelligence is guided and controlled by negative’ sentiment.

Having said that, the tragedy of this past weekend should in no way be minimized. Neither should the loss of human life be in vain.

Though, I know it’s difficult, my loves.

When we are injured, our inclination is to respond in force; to retaliate against the wrong committed. We may feel anger, fear and even rage towards this injustice. Though ultimately, in order to contain this violence – we must dig deep, and utilize this as an opportunity towards collective healing.

Why?

Because, my darlings, irrespective of our faith, our beliefs, our political differences – we are still joined together in this fabric of humanity. The violence committed is not an act against one, but rather an act against all human beings.

As we reflect upon the events of this past week, our hearts may struggle to understand ‘why’; and we may seek consultation where there is perceived to be none.

But, there is always something to be done, my loves. We may stay true to that which is our greater need. And knowing, as His Holiness once so eloquently identified;

“No matter what sort of difficulties, how painful experience is, if we lose out hope, that’s our real disaster.”

In peace, my loves…
