In the Face of Great Change.

What do we do when we face a seemingly insurmountable challenge?

Do we fall immediately into ourselves, convinced that there will be no way forward.

Or, do we smile lovingly to hard and say…”it’s alright darling, I’m right here with you.” In fact, it’s these much ‘deeper heart’ moments which connect us to the true essence of our being. One comprised of resilience and strength, forged in the wake of much bigger things.

We can be swept away, or – we can choose to weather the storm.

But, that’s not always easy – now, is it, my loves? We struggle with the frailties of our own human heart and question whether we are, in fact, ‘strong enough.’

On this path of service, I have witnessed profound suffering. I’ve worked with individuals who’ve faced a degree of adversity most will never know. I’ve held the hands of those who’ve lost it all – their homes, their families, their dignity.

But, those with hope – however fleeting – found the means to rise once again. I’ve often wondered what it is that distinguishes those who fully embrace the nature of the experience – knowing, that in some way their journey shall be enhanced by it. Versus those who upon first threat, will immediately cower or flee.

What is it that allows a simple willingness to form?

Perhaps, it’s knowing only that no matter how ‘bad’ the situation might seem, anything is possible. In fact, nothing is ever inherently fixed – not even that aspect of who we really are.

When faced with adversity, we must remember – that’s it’s these uncommon experiences that teach us hope.

And hope is what keeps us when doubt lingers strong.

A little something to consider today, my loves. The choice to embrace or deny is always ours.

In the words of the ever-gracious Thanissaro Bhikkhu:

“We can do whatever we want to do, create whatever world we want to live in, and become whatever we want to be.”

Now, tell me – which will it be?
