Gratitude

A Destiny of Faith.

When I was a little girl, I remember asking – “What makes the world go round?”

“Faith…” my teacher answered.

Styrofoam models of intergalactic systems filled the gymnasium floor as onlookers marveled at the display. Though, we’d been reviewing a lesson on the planetary movements around the sun – I was still struggling to understand its motivation.

“But, why…” I asked again. Just as any other 6-year-old, I wasn’t content with her scientific ramblings. I didn’t want to know about the effects of gravitational pull; I wanted to know why.

What caused the earth to favor the sun; why did the moon choose this path?

“Faith…” she smiled again. “Faith is what brings everything together.”

Maybe it isn’t possible to have all the answers? Maybe faith is God’s way of leveraging our assurance?

Or, even more simply yet…

Perhaps, faith is the means by which all are connected?

A little something to consider my loves…

“Sunshine,” He Smiled.

I love the way the sun breaks through the window in the earliest hours of morning. At first, barely indiscernible- as if unwilling to ‘rob’ our slumber.

She finds her way through tempered grace, yielding only to the faith of the now waning moon. “I’m here for you, my friend,” she whispers. And, with arms linked, escorts her home.

Though she holds the promise of life to all those before her, still she waits patiently at the window. And for no other purpose safe to ensure our safe passage into another day’s arrival.

“What shall we call her?” the angels asked of God.

“Sunshine,” He smiled. “And she alone shall help to shepherd my light.”

Happy Easter, my beautiful friends…with love and prayers for peace.

A Mistake? Or, Grace?

There’s a koi pond in the gardens of a local nursery I like to visit. I stopped there yesterday on my way home from work, the weather far too nice to miss the blessing of their company.

I’ve always been fascinated by their movement; graceful even in the murkiest of waters. They seem to ‘know’ me upon my arrival, risking ‘life and fin’ in their passage before a hungry old barn cat standing watch. And, simply for the benefit of our conversation – “Have you stopped to see our Magnolia? Doesn’t she look lovely in that deeper shade of green?”

One of my favorites is a speckled beast the locals call a ‘butterfly koi’. Her fins flow like a silken robe through the water. And, perhaps knowing the magnitude of her effortless beauty, she’ll pause – allowing room for the spectators’ exclaim.

To the more traditional of Koi enthusiasts, she’s a ‘genetic mutt’ – unworthy of such popularity and acclaim.

Though, I’ll never say…

To me, she’ll always be one of the greater wonderments of Spring.

“She’s a failure of cross breeding,” her attendant once shared. “Though, my goodness – isn’t her imperfection just the prettiest of things?”

A little something to consider, my friends…

The Blessing of Our Burdens.

When I was first diagnosed with Parkinson’s, I remember thinking “well, that’s just great…” I had just celebrated my 42nd birthday, and had ‘big plans’ for the rest of my life. But, then this thing happened – this big, ugly thing – and, I imagined the worst.

I thought in terms of limitations and burden; never considering how something of this magnitude might serve to liberate. But, there it was in all its glory – another life lesson begging audience with ego.

And, I had PLANS – a family to raise, a book to write, a community to grow. How could this possibility fit within that context?

Was I angry? Sure, a little (at first). Though this anger was rooted, I assure you, in fear.

I was fearful of change, afraid of that ever-looming ‘what might happen next’. I feared for those who might soon be impacted, and worried over the weight of their burden.

Though I never consider how they might be enriched; how my slowing down might actually be of service to all.

My pace became more deliberate, as I learned to steady the wobble in my feet. But, in slowing down my world began to change; I began to see that which is often missed. At first, the bark of a centuries-old Elm and a squirrel standing sentry beneath her boughs. My fingers traced circles in the bordered Brook Moss, as I wondered what life might find refuge there.

Each and every path led me closer to ‘home’. And, within each precarious step I found the source of my gratitude.

Life has a way of twisting circles on a dime. Though, we are never bound by circumstances – rather, we are made free because of them.

This Blessing of Moment.

“You’re humming,” he said, “people don’t hum anymore.” In looking over, I saw the proud smile of an elderly man, lines worn deeply through the prospect of truly living. We shared coffee together over the morning hum of patrons and passersby – pausing only to take the moment in.

“Days need to be savored,” he said. “A moment lost is indeed a tragedy.”

And, though he had experienced great suffering in his life – a widower having lost his only son. Still, he smiled with endless courage – to enjoy these blessings yet remaining.

“Take nothing for granted,” he shared.

Indeed, the greater tragedy is to become numb to this world; to lose ourselves in a passing distress. For a moment lost she’ll never make its way again; time marches boldly on.

“Keep humming,” he winked and with that we said goodbye ~ knowing this day had found life through the kindness of another.

A Star in Human Form.

You are a divine being, my loves – no more, no less. Manifested from the dawn of an impenetrable light, powerful beyond all measure of word.

A child of this universe – born of a chaos finding its order, stardust charged with humanity’s continuance.

You are the source of that which is ‘good and right’. The song of the sparrow, the taking of flight.

Higher and higher, to ultimately prevail – this spirit shall to take on new realms.

We are particulates colliding, oh yes – but, so much more. We are the creation of ‘star’ in human form.

Through This Process of Doing.

My darlings, this morning I’m feeling a particularly deepened sense of gratitude ~ one born from the energy shared so freely here.

For, just as the sun waits patiently to greet – I know, your presence will be with me each day.

Such a blessing, don’t you think? To have the honor of serving a light which has become so precious to me.

And, with each day – new messages, from all aspects of ‘world’… all penned lovingly with the ink of unconditionality. With every action, we build; with each new intention, we grow. All beginning from ‘one post’ which soon became a community. Our blessings are counted through this process of doing.

For this, I am ever grateful.

Because of you, my heart has found its resting place.

Because of you, I shall always know this peace.

Bowing humbly, my darlings…

Where the Heart Is.

“The point of Christmas,” shares Lama Rod Owens, “is to be in the places that need you.”

How simple the act, my darlings – this persistence of hope and promise of belief. A delicate weaving – born of the practice of right way and right thinking.

“Good will to all men” – these heralds proclaim. A testimony that Christmas begins where the heart is.

Happy Christmas my beautiful friends ~ you’ve made each moment brighter through the gift of your being.

The Beauty in All Things.

“It is love alone that leads to right action,” writes Jiddu Krishnamurti. “What brings order to the world is to love and to let love do what it will.”

Though, we may recognize love as ‘the answer’; the ‘antidote’ to our social ills. How often do we allow it to run its true course, to effect the greater need of day?

Love transpires not without purpose; it bends, it twists, it finds its way. All for the benefit of healing past wounds – to cast light within this frame of being.

To remind us that the divine within is stronger than all else.

We see love and we appreciate its presence, though – do we truly allow its energy to flow? Unimpeded, like water over stone.

“To transform the world,” he writes. “we must begin with ourselves.” To that end, we must strive to remove all barriers to love, in order to see the beauty in all things.

A Question of End.

“Your life is shaped by the end you live for,” writes Thomas Merton. “No man can serve two masters.”

To that end, we must strive to examine the source of our conflict; to understand that which inhibits our spiritual release. And, binding us to these forever sort of moments – passages of time left swiftly to lasting.

In our hearts, we long for compassion’s pace; a single breath yielding pause – offering refuge for a boundless peace.

Ever mindful to ensure its favor; a remedy of heart against the vestiges of human nature.

And, our lives are shaped by the end we live for.

In peace, my loves…
