When We Become Our Practice.

[blockquote source=”Swami Satchidananda”]When even one virtue becomes our nature, the mind becomes clean and tranquil. Then there is no need to practice meditation; we will automatically be meditating always.[/blockquote]

I was watching the most interesting documentary yesterday, about the impacts of energy unto our daily existence. And, not just that of the spiritual plane, mind you – although, I do very much believe in that sort of thing, too.

But rather, also, that continuous humming that becomes the ‘noise’ of our digital world – and ends up interfering with every aspect of our being.

The television that’s ‘always on,’; the droning buzz of those ‘wireless’ internet boxes.

And, how about all that gadgetry – the ‘must have’ widgets to put our life at ease?

Is it any wonder, at all – how all of this ‘plugging in,’ has left us disconnected from our ‘inner zen’?

My dears, have you ever noticed how we become a reflection of the world we live in? That our moods are often swayed and sorted by way this interaction with our environment?

You know, I’ve often envied the life of a Buddhist monk, retreating to the highest mountaintop – leaving all these worldly distractions behind, to embrace the serenity of a peace-filled mind. And, no matter the harshest of storms…still they sit, undisturbed in their tranquility.

Not even the fiercest winds, could dare disrupt their inner stillness. In a sense, they become what they practice within.

[blockquote source=”Thaddeus of Vitovnica”]Our life depends on the kind of thoughts we nurture. If our thoughts are peaceful, calm, meek, and kind, then that is what our life is like. If our attention is turned to the circumstances in which we live, we are drawn into a whirlpool of thoughts and can have neither peace nor tranquility.[/blockquote]

My dears, what if we really do become our surroundings? That the manifestation of this human experience, is very much contingent upon the world we choose to live in?

Would that, perhaps, make any difference? To power down and settle into our stillness?

My dears, I wonder what this world might be – when we give peace our undivided attention?

It is something to consider, now isn’t it?

That  maybe true awakening begins when we learn to become our practice? And if only we learn to ‘unplug’, a bit.
