What This River Teaches Me.

I had a rather difficult yoga practice today. My body struggled with fluidity of movement and the strength to hold firm each of my poses.

It can be quite a humbling experience, to wish with all and every bit of your might ~ only to find yourself being pulled in a much different direction.

But, I’ve learned with yoga, as with any practice in life, that some days are just a little more challenging than the rest. Our bodies may act with ease in the morning, while at night our mind puddles into a soppy, weeping mess.

And that’s just the way that it is. Some days, are just a little better than the rest.

While others may leave us feeling trapped in the flow, toppling our spirits like driftwood through the thrashing current.

But, eventually even the tiniest splinter of wood will break free – and with edges worn smooth, find its way to that shore once again.

You know, when I lived in Hawaii, the locals used to say, if ever you were to find yourself caught in the deadly undercurrent – the worst thing you could do was to try to swim your way through it.

“Go *with* flow, mo’bettah sistah… “

And, while you may end up several hundred feet down the coast  – trust that there will always be a smiling Samoan, with arms extended, to greet you.

I think that analogy holds true to all things in life – as, it’s the struggling that ends up causing us the greatest of troubles.

So, relax in the knowing that there will be an end…as, all waves eventually find their way to the shore.

And, though today may seem a test of your courage – remember, even the most perfect bloom will tremble a bit before breaking free.

Namaste, and much love, my dears…
