Stillness

This Pinnacle of Peacefulness.

My daughter and I were involved in a motor vehicle accident yesterday.
 
As we stopped for a light, the driver behind accelerated to make it ‘on time.’
 
It was a split second of screeching tires, crumpled metal, and glass shards falling to ground. Though, in the moments to follow I became acutely aware of a profound silence settling in.
 
Even in the most extreme of circumstances, there is always a balance between the pinnacle of emotion and what we know to be our inner peace.
 
As Thich Nhat Hanh so simply states, “You stop, you breathe, and you still your mind.”
 
My darlings, not every will go ‘right’ in our worlds. In our lives, we may experience the depths of an immeasurable sorrow. And, we may believe our chattering mind spinning stories of ‘never to return home again.’
 
But then, there’s moments just like this when we’re able to release our minds from the burden of past notions and ideals. It is the space of our true mind; a mind silent to the limitation of ‘words’. There are no labels here, no comparisons – nor, emotion.
 
In that single, split second span of time – we are, at once, home again.

My darlings, this is the center point of our awareness presenting a vast spaciousness unlike any known before. And, as it offers its blessing so graciously to us, we are reminded – that stillness speaks louder than any chattering mind.
 
For, it’s “only when the ocean is calm and quiet” that we may finally appreciate the moon’s refection.
