“Human wisdom has advanced to the point where man can construct satellites. And yet man in his wisdom cannot find a way to rescue and old woman in Vietnam from her tragic plight. We can’t wait to find out what the pockmarked face of the far side of the moon looks like, but we have no time to consider what meaning those wrinkles of sorrow etched deep into tha face of an old woman may have for us.” – Daisaku Ikeda
I was particularly moved by this passage today; a contemplation into the nature of our shared humanity.
That is to say, with all the advancements designed to further our technological ’cause’, where is the emphasis on our human connection?
And, tell me – what is the use of ‘new and improved’ formulations if we are unable to ‘see’ past the patent?
In looking to the eyes of another human soul we see that which so easily eludes the microscopes view.
We see their fearlessness in the face of adversity; we mark resilience through their deepened lines. And, we learn that hope is forged ‘against all odds’.
Yes, we can put a man on the moon, but can we measure the capacity of one human soul?
A little something to consider on this day, my loves – and hopefully deepen our connection to others.
Namaste ❤️
