The Power of One in this World.

[blockquote source=”Martin Luther King Jr.”]“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” [/blockquote]

Nobel laureate, Maya Angelou once said, “Nothing can dim the light which shines from within.”

I’ve often reflected upon these words, particularly in times when I’ve felt overwhelmed by the weight of my circumstances. I want to change this world, you see – to offer the Hope in Desperation’s place.

But, changing a world so stuck in its ways, can sometimes feel an impossible dream.

We are ‘only one’, after all.

“I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something.” ― Edward Everett Hale

Can you imagine a South Africa without a Nelson Mandela? A Europe without an Oskar Schindler? An India without a Mother Teresa? Or, an America without a Martin Luther King?

How many lives were saved? How many hearts were changed? And, all through the graces of one human being?

Indeed, we are all ‘just one’ – but, sometimes ‘one’ is all that we need to change this world.

Today, I would like to highlight the efforts of the Borgen Project – an incredible nonprofit organization that is addressing poverty and hunger worldwide.

“In 1999, while working as a young volunteer in refugee camps during the Kosovo War and genocide, Clint Borgen recognized the need for an organization that could focus U.S. political attention on extreme poverty. In 2003, after graduating from Washington State University and interning at the United Nations, Borgen began developing the organization.

In need of startup funding, Borgen took a job living on a fishing vessel docked in Dutch Harbor, Alaska (the same location as “The Deadliest Catch”). From humble beginnings in one of the most remote regions of the world, The Borgen Project was born. One man with a laptop and a budget that came from his Alaska paychecks has evolved into a national campaign with volunteers operating in 220 U.S. cities.”

Please take a moment to share your love, and support, for this most wonderful organization.
