But For The Love of a Dog.

[blockquote source=”Dean Koontz”]”No matter how close we are to another person, few human relationships are as free from strife, disagreement, and frustration as is the relationship you have with a good dog. Few human beings give of themselves to another as a dog gives of itself. I also suspect that we cherish dogs because their unblemished souls make us wish – consciously or unconsciously – that we were as innocent as they are, and make us yearn for a place where innocence is universal and where the meanness, the betrayals, and the cruelties of this world are unknown.”[/blockquote]

I’ve a bit of a flu bug this morning, waking to deep muscle aches intent on dampening even the best sorted out and settled upon of plans.

Why there’s the catching up on emails…and those socks that just won’t seem to sort themselves. And the scent of home baked bread wafting through each of my rooms, I suspect even that will have to wait.

You see, Sundays are a most special time around here – when electronics are turned mostly to off, and the family gathers to appreciate all and every single one of those ‘little things’.

And, as I struggled to bring myself once again to ‘upright’, I heard a familiar scratch at my door – my faithful puppy, “Nudnick” was waiting ever-so-patiently at the door. Nudnick is a most happy benefactor of my Sunday ritual – always looking forward to our trip around the trails.

But, this morning was just a little different – for instead of feigning a whimpered puppy impatience, instead…he plopped onto my bed with the gift of his favorite toy.

Nudnick is not one known for the grace of his sharing, but on this day he made a most loving exception.

Animals have such a brilliantly keen insight to their world around – and when it comes to the ones they love most in this world, why even a much anticipated romp in the snow can wait.

My dears, were it not for the love of a dog – our worlds might be so horribly incomplete.

Namaste, and much love on this day.
