Our Spiritual Continuity.

Rabbi Jonathan Omer-Man writes that integrity is the ability to listen to a place inside that doesn’t change, even when the life that carries it may.

I don’t know why his words came to mind on such a beautiful Autumn morning. Perhaps, in response to the weathered leaves, a reminder of our Divine renewal. Even in the midst of an imminent storm, the integrity of our spirit remains unchanged.

Though our hearts may ache as we pine over the facets of our former self, there is still a constancy – a connection to our greatness. In time, we may soon realize that the same winds which threaten our path subsequently reveal.

We are changed, yes – but, we are likewise the same; a gentle newness offering its wisdom. In spite of the challenge, we hold this truth as home. The pace of our learning, set by whispered breath.

In This, Our Renewal.

Over the past few days, I’ve been reading a book by author and teacher, Deepak Chopra. “When you make a choice, you change the future,” he writes.

I sat for a moment as I considered his words. So often we view life’s more heart wrenching moments as a point of weakness. We feel overwhelmed by the burden of uncertainty, mistrust and fear. So much so, that we begin to lock step – digging in to that which is familiar.

We are reluctant to experience the unknown, though – isn’t that where life truly begins? Standing at the precipice of our next leap of faith? Do we dare to do? Do we dare to change?

“When you make a choice, you change the future.”

In this life, there are no accidents, my friends – only a purpose that hasn’t yet been fulfilled.

As we agonize over ‘wrong’ versus ‘right’, we lose our chance to engage this life. Defaulting, instead to the status quo; our life as it is, and nothing more.

“The way of peace,” he writes, “is a soul journey.” And every step? A choice – and our means for renewal.

A Pathway to Joy.

Outside in the garden an English rose blooms, insistent that its time hasn’t yet passed. And in spite of the biting chill still she dons her summer best – at first reluctant to let the seasons pass.

Are we not, at times, much the same? We flex our grip to that ‘familiar stick’, a comfort only of benefit to the most solitary existence.

And yet, around us the world is engulfed in a continuous renewal. A changing leaf, a blade of grass – the fading scent of a familiar rose. Within which, we find our greatest joy; and, through which we engage our eternal presence.

In the words of the Buddha, we learn:

“Even among the troubled.

Look within.

Be still.

Free from fear and attachment,

Know the sweet joy of living in the way.”

No matter the circumstances, we are always our own pathway to joy.

Through Fall’s Open Road.

I watched the leaves shift in the morning breeze.

At the highest bough, they lingered — eager to tell this manifestation of change. Within which, a burnished red with coppered hue, and a gold – quite simply, heaven sent. All telling of these riches to be shared.

At no other time, does the earth provide itself so freely; a gentle yielding to open soul.

I walk in solitude, yet never alone; this path ahead forged through knowing.

That we are, at once, all of the same — energy and motion of the Divine’s loving grace.

Does This Bring You Joy?

Joseph Campbell once wrote, that we can not cure the world of sorrows – but, we can choose to live in joy.

To that end, I make my choice with mindful determination – assuring the source is reflected always within the means.

Even when the complexities of life may threaten to overwhelm, we have an opportunity to transform, to transcend.

Just as the depths of night give way to dawn; slowly, at first – an imperceptible knowing, bowing before the grace of light.

And, scattered amidst these clouds – our destiny.

There is only one question which remains, my loves – “Does this being me joy?”

In peace…
