Beyond These Limits of Being.

I watched a little one playing outside the window this morning. Upon his head, a folded paper hat donning the emblem of the fearless pirate ‘Zed’.

The ‘z’ printed backwards, of course – further emphasizing the tumultuous seas ahead. And swinging his tree branch turned sword he cried, “I’m a pirate, YAR!! Watch me now!!”

Though last weekend he was a superhero, if I recall. Spiderman *with* a cape, because – well, why not?

Isn’t it amazing, my loves – how these ‘worlds’ are created? In an instant, we are ‘on top of the world’. While just moments later, a cowering mess. How can the two be derived of same mind? What changes to substantiate their premise?

We are born, limitless. Though, in time, behaviors are learned; infused within our capacity of discernment – a challenge presented through the relevance of our being.

“God speaks to each of us as he makes us,” the poet Rilke once shared.”then walks with us silently out of the night.”

Perhaps, this is the learning of faith’s dutiful course? A joy, a sadness – a humbling loss. Followed again by a rediscovery; nothing is final, and the heart is not lost.

“Go to the limits of your longing.” he writes. “Embody me. Flare up like a flame and make big shadows I can move in. Let everything happen to you: beauty and terror. Just keep going. No feeling is final. Don’t let yourself lose me. Nearby is the country they call life. You will know it by its seriousness.”

This morning, the little ones shall dance courageously nearest their fear. They shall climb only to the highest of limbs, and simply for this joy we call living.

In peace, my loves…
