The Art of Seeing.

“Fame is no more than the sum of all the misunderstandings that gather around a new name.”

He was tasked to write the biography of the artist Rodin. But as Rainer Maria Rilke struggled to fill the blank pages before him, he realized that a greatness such as this could never be limited by the construct of word.

Oh, no – Rodin was born great. And to that end, even as a young boy too busy etching through worn scraps of wood, there was something far greater still – an unimpeded connection to the ever-growing life force of this world.

Rodin not only understood this energy, he mastered it – allowing nothing to challenge his capacity to see.

Artists such as Rodin – the true masters – exude an air of always knowing. To those, ‘the chosen few’, doubt is an unknown current. They see that which exists beyond physical form, connecting deeply to the source of spirit within.

Can you imagine living your life so freely, my loves? That the instinct to do is greater than any self-imposed worry?

For even the depths of a seemingly endless grey winter sky, yield the treasure of an ‘invincible spring.’

These Conduits of Light.

When I was a little girl, my mother would take us on trips to the art museum in Cleveland.

The building itself was magnificent; the floors were cut from the finest marble, and polished brass (hugging) every staircase.

The most popular of rooms housed the works of the 17th century European masters -Zurbarán, Poussin, Caravaggio – artists known for their ability to emulate life through a layering of oils. These were the artists who understood the interplay of light upon shadow; effortlessly communicating mood through depths.

Most were attracted to the brutal honesty within these works; the ability to see and communicate life just as it is.

But, I was intrigued by something far deeper still. That was, the ability of light to permeate any darkness. In this sense, all else is transfixed – only the light dares to move.

And begging the truth, as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle once observed – that perhaps we, ourselves, are not luminous; rather, we are the bold conductors of the light within all.

To See Ourselves Reflected.

The venerable Buddhist teacher, Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche once offered that art was the ability of the mind to relate gracefully with all that is before us; to see reflected within oneself the glorious masterpiece of this earth.

In this way, all of life is ‘art.’

Whether falling leaves or the scent of rain, everything is sacred. And, sacred in the sense that there is a divine grace within our connection; an unspoken gratitude which so effortlessly fills the ‘space between.’

My darlings, nothing is ever outside of our practice, because everything is our practice.

All that we are, or have ever dared to be; every thought, every hope, every soulful dream – is a fearless expression of our heart’s liberation. Unbiased, and without regret.

“To hear never-heard sounds,
To see never-seen colors and shapes,
To try to understand the imperceptible
Power pervading the world;
To fly and find pure ethereal substances
That are not of matter
But of that invisible soul pervading reality.” – Dejan Stojanovic

To see ourselves within a single drop of rain, my darlings, this is what it means for our hearts to finally be heard.

Art Happens in the Stillness: Featured Artist, Sandi Pike Foundas.

[blockquote source=”Sandi Pike Foundas”]”Art happens when I get in the stillness. That ‘quiet place’ when my hand and heart connect and Spirit flows through…”[/blockquote]

There’s a story to be told, and oh my goodness it’s a good one!

You see, just over a year ago I was inspired by a wondrous piece of art – a hand painted stone with a single word, “breathe”.

Oh, and how I cherished that stone – with bright swirling patterns, and the love only an artists hand could bestow. It was magic in a few simple brush stokes. I looked for months to find the artist ~ leaving, pardon the pun, no stone unturned. But just as soon as she had inspired, it seemed she was lost again.

Every do often I would look to the image of that stone, “some day I will find you,” I would smile.

I knew the time of our meeting would come, in the time and the space it was intended.

It sometimes happens this way, you know. We must wait until all is in its place, and our hearts are ready to receive.

And that time, my dears, was today. You see, I received a lovely email from the artist who happened upon this page and then the next – where she found nestled up close to her image, the article I had penned from her inspiration.

And oh, my dears what a beautiful spark of light ~ and someone I hope you’ll welcome with both arms extended, in one big squeezy spiritual hug.

And, though I was already transfixed by her artwork – these stones I know will take your breath away.

Alis volat propriss, my dears – that’s Latin for,  ‘She flies with her very own wings’.
